Academics

Teaching methods in the Foundation Stage at Hartland involves enquiry-based, child-initiated, and play-based learning, with direct teacher-led activities. We follow the EYFS Curriculum from England, encompassing seven key areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Expressive Arts and Design and Understanding the World. Students also participate in specialist lessons such as Arabic, Music, PE, Swimming, Library, and Yoga. The engaging learning environment, equipped with accessible resources, promotes self-choice and development. With a structured daily schedule and dedicated professional staff, Hartland ensures a smooth transition to primary education, fostering a love for learning and strong partnerships with parents.

Foundation Stage students at Hartland enjoy a variety of extra-curricular activities that enhance their holistic development. They engage in outdoor learning to foster resilience and creativity, play-based sessions to develop social skills and problem-solving, and enquiry-based activities to stimulate curiosity and critical thinking. Creative arts and crafts encourage fine motor skills and creativity, while storytelling and drama sessions promote language development and confidence. Facilities & Environment

Our Foundation Stage offers a rich and safe learning environment with dedicated facilities. The classrooms are crafted to be bright and welcoming and are purposefully designed with engaging learning spaces. All classrooms have access to an outdoor learning area that to further encourage exploration and creative expression. Our Foundation Stage students also have exclusive access to an indoor multipurpose activity room, outdoor play spaces, training swimming pool and changing facilities.

TYPICAL DAY OF FOUNDATION STAGE (FS1 & FS2)

07:50 AM - 08:00 AM

Students gather for circle time, where they discuss the day's plans, sing songs, and engage in brief activities that foster communication and language development.

08:00 AM - 09:00 AM

Through a combination of play-based and teacher-led sessions, children begin to explore basic literacy and numeracy skills, engaging with letters, numbers, and simple problem-solving exercises.

09:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Children head outdoors to the playground where they can run, climb, and explore. This hour is dedicated to developing their physical skills and coordination while having fun in a safe environment.

10:00 AM - 10:30 AM

After their outdoor adventures, students enjoy a healthy snack. This time also allows them to socialize with peers, sharing stories and building friendships.

10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Children immerse themselves in creative activities such as drawing, painting, and crafting, allowing them to express their imagination and develop fine motor skills.

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM

During this session, students engage in hands-on activities that help them explore the world around them, encouraging curiosity and critical thinking.

12:30 PM - 01:00 PM

A nutritious lunch is served, providing students with the energy they need for the remainder of the day. This is also a time for relaxation and casual conversation.

01:00 PM - 02:00 PM

The day concludes with specialist lessons where children can explore various disciplines, such as music, physical education, or Arabic, enhancing their overall development in a well-rounded manner.
