Academics

At Hartland International School, the Sixth Form offers a robust academic experience, combining rigorous coursework with extensive enrichment opportunities. Students can choose from a broad array of A level subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Literature, History, Art, and various languages, ensuring a well-rounded education. In addition to A levels, students have the option to pursue BTEC courses that provide practical, career-focused learning.

The curriculum is designed to prepare students for higher education and future careers, emphasizing independent learning, critical thinking, and research skills. A key component of the academic program is the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), an independent research project that allows students to explore a topic of personal interest, further developing their research and analytical skills.

Hartland’s Sixth Form also includes a Life Skills Programme covering topics such as personal finance, careers guidance, and basic cooking, ensuring students are well-prepared for life beyond school. Regular assessments and personalized support from experienced educators help students stay on track to achieve their academic goals and gain entry to leading universities worldwide

ECAs

Sixth Form students can engage in a rich array of extra-curricular activities that extend beyond the classroom, fostering both personal and leadership development. The school offers a wide range of clubs and societies, such as Model United Nations (MUN), debating, sports, and arts, ensuring that every student can pursue their passions. Students are also encouraged to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which promotes self-esteem, confidence, and teamwork through challenging expeditions.

Students also benefit from comprehensive career support designed to prepare them for higher education and future employment. The university and careers programme includes a 15-hour taught course led by a qualified career advisor, Mrs. Mary Sheedy, who helps students develop their personal brand and prepares them for university and job applications. Additionally, students have access to the UNIFROG platform, which provides valuable resources for researching universities, preparing for interviews, and writing CVs. Regular guidance from form tutors and career counsellors ensures that each student's progress is closely monitored and supported, helping them make informed decisions about their academic and career paths.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral care at Sixth Form is comprehensive and tailored to support each student's academic and personal development. With small class sizes, daily form tutor sessions, and access to a qualified school counsellor, students receive personalized attention and emotional support. The dedicated careers counsellor assists with career planning and university applications. This is complemented by the VESPA program, which focuses on Vision, Effort, Systems, Practice, and Attitude to cultivate essential skills for academic and personal success. Regular communication with parents ensures a collaborative approach to student well-being, preparing them for a successful future both academically and personally.
