Sports at Hartland are an integral part of our school identity, fostering a culture of teamwork, resilience, and excellence from the moment students join us. We offer Team, Individual and Recreational and non-competitive sports and activities. Lessons are designed to nurture critical skills such as discipline, collaboration, and perseverance while promoting an appreciation of physical activity and competition. Our enrichment programme also includes specialist coaching across various sports, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive, whether competing at a recreational or elite level.
Our passionate and highly skilled PE staff, including ex-international athletes, lead a dynamic sports programme that fosters excellence and inclusivity. Competing in prestigious associations such as DASSA and BSME, we offer diverse opportunities in team and individual sports. With 60% of students from Years 3-13 actively participating in competitive fixtures, our programme showcases the depth and enthusiasm of our sporting community. By combining expert coaching with partnerships from leading sports organisations, we provide all students with access to exceptional training and clear pathways to thrive, whether at the highest levels of competition or in recreational pursuits.
Students begin their competitive sporting journey in Year 3 (U8 level) and continue through to Year 13 (U19 level). Training sessions are held during after-school enrichment time, with some sports offering morning sessions before lessons. Competitions and fixtures take place after lessons, with the school hosting or travelling for games. As well as competing with other schools, our teams compete in the World School Games and the BSME International Sporting Competitions. The Dubai school sports calendar is divided into three terms, featuring different sports and leagues each term. The competitive sports season kicks off in mid-October, as the weather cools, and runs through to July, providing students with a full and dynamic sporting experience throughout the academic year.
Through the school enrichment programme, there are also several non-competitive wellbeing and sporting activities for students to select from. These include Dance, Yoga, Skiing, Martial Arts, Gymnastics/ Cheer leading, fitness-based classes and Horse riding. Some of these activities take place out of the school, taking advantage of some of the incredible facilities and opportunities offered within Dubai.
